KINGSTON, April 25      For the second year running, the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will partner in the hosting of the annual player awards ceremony to acknowledge the top performing cricketers in the region for the year 2013.

There will be approximately 14 awards to include the top male and female cricketers of the year; sectional prizes and the WIPA and WICB will each offer a Lifetime Achievement Award. The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 5 at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston.

WIPA, President and CEO, Wavell Hinds has said of the partnership “these awards have always been in existence for 11 years and to have the WICB on board again for the second year shows how dedicated both parties are to the best interest of cricket in the West Indies. The region is being encouraged to partner also as cricket is rebounding and we ought to be able to have the support of the region.”

In agreeing that the joint awards ceremony works, WICB CEO, Michael Muirhead thinks the two organisations have one thing in common – its players. “Any efforts to collaborate for the players are worthy of support and we look forward to have our players perform on top of the world in all formats of the game.”

The Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, former Jamaican Prime Minister, who now chairs the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket committee, will give the keynote address.

The event precedes the June 8 start of the first test between New Zealand and the West Indies, scheduled for Sabina Park. Which is also the 100th test for West Indies opener, Christopher Gayle. The event will cost US$200.00/ JM$22,000.00 per ticket. (Conversion JM$110.00 to US$1.00)
